HP and JSC Transtelecom Launched Big Investment Project for Kazakhstan National Railways Operator

The project will help JSC ‘NC’ ‘Kazakhstan Temir Zholy’ reduce energy consumption in the country’s railways system.

HP Kazakhstan has announced signing the agreement with JSC Transtelecom, a subsidiary of JSC ‘NC’ ‘Kazakhstan Temir Zholy’ (KTZh), Kazakhstan national railways operator. The total amount of Transtelecom investments under this agreement will be $62 mln.

The agreement is estimated for 13 years. Within this period HP, being the general contractor of JSC Transtelecom, will deliver, implement and maintain the automated system ‘REMS Central’ in the framework of the work on implementing the project on creating the automated management system ‘Power Dispatch Draft’ (AMS PDD). Thanks to the implementation of the REMS system, the expected level of energy saving will be up to 7% and up to 13% concerning diesel oil.

‘Railway transport has always been and still remains one of the most important elements of Kazakhstan infrastructure. Effective functioning of railway lines is of great importance for the state, business, people from our and neighboring countries, – says Askar Mamin, the chairman and the president of JSC ‘NC’ ‘Kazakhstan Temir Zholy’. – We are sure the great experience of HP will help us realize in full the advantages of modern technologies, which will have a positive impact on the railway industry and will help everybody who makes use of the railway transport in Kazakhstan’.

Within the agreement, HP will ensure the transformation of applications and integration services which will integrate REMS with the existing systems so as to create a more modern and effective infrastructure of managing the railway traffic. When the system is ready, HP will charge itself with its maintenance; using applications management services (http://www8.hp.com/us/en/business-services/it-services.html?compURI=1079234) at that stage.

Moreover, HP will provide hardware (including the blade servers HP ProLiant, the storage systems HP EVA and the solutions HP Networking) for modernizing the data processing center KTZh. After the equipment deployment, HP will provide infrastructure outsourcing services so as to release KTZh from the system implementation management.

The REMS infrastructure is based on the technologies developed by Ipesoft, the leader at the production systems market of Slovakia. Within the framework of this ambitious project, more than 2,000 locomotives will be equipped with special devices for measuring the fuel level, temperature, speed and other performance figures. Based on this data, the REMS system will generate the recommendations on improving energy consumption as well as send this data to operators, engineers, department managers and other interested parties. These recommendations will help KTZh reduce energy consumption, increase the efficiency of railway infrastructure management and make the country’s economy more competitive in the global scale.

‘Kazakhstan and its railway industry play an important role in the transport connection between Europe and Asia. Today KTZh is making an important step ahead and we are sure it will help us provide better services to our clients, – says Markus Ruff, Executive Vice President and Head of HP Enterprise Services Division in Central and Eastern Europe. – The unique experience of HP in the sphere of application management will grant KTZh the access to the data which has been unavailable and will help the company resort to innovations.’

The conference ‘HP Discover’ will take place on December 4-6 in Frankfurt, Germany.
